Comparative sentences 1: “A 跟 B 一样 (+ Adj)”

In Chinese, the structure A 跟 B 一样 (A gēn B yíyàng) is used to express that two people, objects, or actions are the same or equal (equivalent to “A is the same as B” or “A is as [adjective] as B” in English).

An adjective can be added after 一样 to specify the exact aspect of comparison (e.g. 一样大 — the same size). In the negative form, 不 is placed directly before 一样 (不一样 — not the same / different).

Grammar Structure

Affirmative: A + 跟 + B + 一样 (+ Adjective)
Negative: A + 跟 + B + 不一样 (+ Adjective)
