“了” indicating a change
Used at the end of a declarative sentence, the modal particle 了 (le) indicates a change in the situation or the occurrence of a new state of affairs. It emphasizes that a situation is now different compared to how it was before.
Example: 我现在没钱了 (Wǒ xiànzài méi qián le) — “I don't have money now” (implying I used to have money, but now the situation has changed).
