Fixed Pattern “越 A 越 B”

The Chinese pattern “越A越B” shows that as A changes, B changes accordingly. Simply: the more A changes, the more B changes.

In English, it is usually translated as: The more…, the more… The more…, the stronger… The longer…, the more… The harder…, the better… As A increases, B also increases.

Structure

越 + A + 越 + B

Both A and B can be verb phrases or adjective phrases.

Important Notes

1. Subject: With one subject, it goes before the first 越. With different subjects, each goes before its own 越. 2. Note: 很 / 非常 are not normally used with 越A越B. 3. 越……越好: Means “the more ..., the better”. 越多越好 — The more, the better.
