The 把 sentence (2)

In Chinese the “把” (bǎ) construction is used for actions like giving, returning, handing over or taking something to another person.

That is, something is:

given to someone else; given back; taken and handed over; turned in.

Basic Structure

Subject + 把 + Object₁ + Verb + 给 + Object₂

Here:

Object₁ — the thing the action is done to Object₂ — the person who receives it

你(Nǐ)明(míng)天(tiān)再(zài)把(bǎ)书(shū)还(huán)给(gěi)我(wǒ)。

Give the book back to me tomorrow.

Structure

你 + 明天再 + 把 + 书 + 还给 + 我你 — you 明天再 — tomorrow 把书 — the book 还给 — to give back 我 — to me

我(Wǒ)把(bǎ)礼(lǐ)物(wù)送(sòng)给(gěi)她(tā)了(le)。

I gave her the present.

Structure

我 + 把 + 礼物 + 送给 + 她 + 了我 — I 把礼物 — the present 送给 — to give as a gift 她 — to her 了 — marks that the action was carried out

请(Qǐng)你(nǐ)把(bǎ)这(zhè)本(běn)书(shū)带(dài)给(gěi)老(lǎo)师(shī)。

Please take this book to the teacher.

Structure

请你 + 把 + 这本书 + 带给 + 老师请你 — please, you… 把这本书 — this book 带给 — to take to 老师 — to the teacher

Meaning: something is given, returned, handed over or taken to another person.

Examples:
