Expressing amounts of money
China's currency is called 人民币 (Rénmínbì, RMB).
The units, largest to smallest:
元 → 角 → 分
In speech they are usually said like this:
块 → 毛 → 分
That is:
元 (yuán) = 块 (kuài)
角 (jiǎo) = 毛 (máo)
分 (fēn) = 分 (fēn)
The order
An amount is said in this order:
元 / 块 → 角 / 毛 → 分
In English:
yuan → jiao/mao → fen
The units
元yuányuan — the formal word
块kuàiyuan — the spoken word
角jiǎo1/10 yuan — the formal word
毛máo1/10 yuan — the spoken word
分fēn1/100 yuan

There is no 角 / 毛 part here, so 零 is used.
