The order of time and place phrases
When a time phrase and a place phrase both serve as adverbials in one sentence, the time phrase comes first.
Basic structure
Subject + time + place + verb
Who, when, where, does what
我们七点在电影院外边见
我们wǒmenwe
七点qī diǎnat seven
在电影院外边zài diànyǐngyuàn wàibianoutside the cinema
见jiànmeet
Here the time phrase 七点 precedes the place phrase 在电影院外边.
安妮下午在家里学中文
安妮ĀnnīAnnie
下午xiàwǔin the afternoon
在家里zài jiālǐat home
学中文xué Zhōngwénstudy Chinese
Here 下午 gives the time and 在家里 the place.
陈天中明天中午在学校吃午饭
陈天中Chén TiānzhōngChen Tianzhong
明天中午míngtiān zhōngwǔtomorrow at midday
在学校zài xuéxiàoat school
吃午饭chī wǔfànhave lunch
Here too the time phrase comes before the place phrase.
