Meaning

倍 is a measure word showing how many times larger or smaller one quantity is than another. Unlike most measure words, 倍 is not followed by a noun.

A + 是 + B + 的 + Number + 倍

二(Èr)的(de)五(wǔ)倍(bèi)是(shì)十(shí)。

Five times two is ten.

我(Wǒ)的(de)工(gōng)资(zī)是(shì)每(měi)月(yuè)五(wǔ)千(qiān)块(kuài)，他(tā)的(de)工(gōng)资(zī)是(shì)我(wǒ)的(de)两(liǎng)倍(bèi)。

My salary is five thousand yuan a month. His is twice mine.

我(Wǒ)记(jì)得(de)昨(zuó)天(tiān)才(cái)三(sān)块(kuài)五(wǔ)一(yī)斤(jīn)，今(jīn)天(tiān)的(de)价(jià)格(gé)是(shì)昨(zuó)天(tiān)的(de)两(liǎng)倍(bèi)。

I remember it was only three and a half yuan a jin yesterday. Today's price is twice yesterday's.

今(Jīn)年(nián)的(de)收(shōu)入(rù)增(zēng)加(jiā)了(le)一(yī)倍(bèi)。

This year's income has doubled.

是……的两倍 = twice, 是……的三倍 = three times — the number says it plainly. But 增加了 / 多了 counts differently: 增加了一倍 = doubled (up 100%), 增加了两倍 = tripled.

工(Gōng)资(zī)是(shì)以(yǐ)前(qián)的(de)三(sān)倍(bèi)。

The salary is three times what it used to be.

增(Zēng)长(zhǎng)了(le)百(bǎi)分(fēn)之(zhī)二(èr)十(shí)。

It grew by twenty per cent.

倍 → how many times. 百分之 → what percentage.

Remember: 倍 = times. A 是 B 的 + Number + 倍. 增加了一倍 = doubled — this is where learners slip most often.
